Purple Hair!

Good evening, all! Thank you for your kind words last week when my daughter had a hospital appointment. Unfortunately she has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which is a type of cancer that often attacks people in their 20s and 30s - but it has been caught early, and the prognosis is very good! There's a 90% chance of a complete cure. The next 6 months will be tough, as she must have chemotherapy once a fortnight, but she is determined to make the best of things. It helps that she has very good friends - and so do I, including you guys!

The ribbon for the disease is coloured violet, so I hunted through my snippets box for purple papers, which I distressed with Dusty Concord Distress Ink, to make this card for her.

The gorgeous image is one of Krista Smith's amazing artworks: this one is an older digi called 'Chasing Butterflies' but I can't find her in Krista's shop. I coloured her in Promarkers, using the wonderful thin nibs, and the list is below.

I used a Nestie to cut her out. The die-cut flourish is by Cheery Lynn, I cut a side-branch off and added it to the right side. The butterflies are cut from a scrap of yellow glitter-card with a punch by Martha Stewart. The silky spotty ribbon is from Hobbycraft, and the sequin flowers and purple gems are from stash. The flower is a Corncockle, made with a set of punches from Tonic Studios.

Here's a close-up:

I am really chuffed with how the colouring turned out, especially the hair!!

Challenges I'm entering: Tuesday Morning Sketches supplied the gorgeous sketch - I hope it's ok that I replaced the ribbon with the flower in the bottom left corner!

Saturated Canary Challenge would like to see unusually coloured hair.

Pixie's Crafty Snippets Challenge Use your snippets!

I hope you've all had a good weekend, we had sunshine, and apparently we're to get more for the Bank Holiday tomorrow! Huzza!

Thanks for looking, my lovelies!

love Mags B x

Promarkers: Aubergine, Purple, Orchid, Lavender; Coral, Sunkissed Pink, Blush, Baby Pink, Antique Pink; Yellow, Lemon, Primrose; Bright Green, Leaf Green, Meadow Green (Flexmarker); Ice Grey 1, 2; Cinnamon, Tan

Purple hair must be different to colour - it looks FABULOUS and you got the highlights just so! Love it. So glad you could come play at Tuesday Morning Sketches with us :)

How wonderful to use the ribbon colour as your inspiration for the colours, without using the ribbon itself. I find it really hard to use the ribbons myself, so I am going to try to remember this next time I have the honour of making a card for such a hard time.

I don't have an ease with words to give comfort, but I am very sorry that your daughter must fight this disease. I am glad to hear that she is a fighter - and that the prognosis is good - and that you both have friends to surround & sustain you during the battle. I wish you both the strength you need! And I'm sending you big hugs :)

Crafty hugs to you and your family! I am so sorry to hear of your daughter diagnosis. Good to see you both facing it square on, as I think that is exactly waht needs to be done.

My DH was diagnoses when the girls were not yet at school. He did not have good odds like your daughter and he is still here with me!

We faced it square on like you and it really helps.

Your card is wonderful and so great that you used the colours for her particular form of cancer.
your colouring is gorgeous and shows that beautiful image off so well!
Hugs again

What a wonderful girly purple card. You did a fantastic job of coloring, and so many highlites & shadows. Perfect. On the DD diagnosis: My son-in-law was diagnosed with Non-Hodgins when he was 14, not given very good prognosis at the time (his father only recently shared that with us). SIL is now 44 yrs old! You all have a strong attitude to fight & win the battle. Give your DD a big hug from me in the USA, and tell her BE STRONG, HAVE FAITH. And God Bless you both. TFS, and I hope you'll visit me if you have time. Loved the name of your place too! Wish I'd thought of it myself. Would fit here where I live.
