Sequins and Buttons

Good morning! Last Saturday I made a shaker card for the current Challenge at My Time to Craft which is to use sequins, buttons or both. While I had my sequins and the button tin out, I thought I'd make another card, using Bubble Bloom Felicity by Woodware. I've had this stamp a while but never used it - it is Never-before-used-Schtuff or NBUS for short.

The inspiring Darnell coined the phrase and acronym. If you haven't discovered her blog do go and see, her creations are lovely and she is so funny!

Anyway, here is my card:

Very CAS! The buttons are from my late Mother-in-Law's button tin, they have a pretty pearly sheen. The sequins are from Little Things by Lucy from her Tutu Sparkly Shaker Collection. So pretty! The leaves are coloured with Copics.

I hope you all have a great weekend! I have scheduled this, as tomorrow Ye Olde Manne and I are going to a wedding! A rare excuse to wear my Posh Frock!!!

Thanks for looking!

CRAFT Challenge #423 Inspired by a Book

Good morning! At CRAFT Challenge this week we'd like you to be Inspired by a Book.

Mine is 'Treasure Island' by Robert Louis Stevenson. Arrr, Jim lad!

The image is an old one by Bugaboo Stamps. I used some very old pirate buttons, cutting off the shanks before gluing them down. The blue strips are supposed to represent the treasure trail - in hindsight I should have stamped arrows along each strip! Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

I used stickers for the sentiment, and the paper is from stash.

As Lord Melchett said in the Blackadder II episode 'Potato,' - "With a Yo Ho Ho and perhaps I might venture a bottle of rum into the bargain."

Our sponsor is wonderful:

Go and see my teamies' creations - you may well be inspired to read the books they have illustrated!

Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

My Time to Craft Challenge #344 Sequins or Buttons.

Goooood Morning!!! I hope you're all enjoying the weekend! Our next challenge at My Time to Craft is to use Sequins or Buttons or Both on your creation! This is a great challenge, as you can add sequins to a girly 'make' or buttons to a 'boy' one!

I went with a Shaker card for a baby.

I think it looks as though she is sitting in one of those soft ball play areas!

The adorable little elephant is from a Simon Says Stamp set, Wild About You - the stamps came with their April kit, I don't have the dies! Even though the price has gone up a lot since the fall in the £ since last June, I just can't stop my subscription to these gorgeous kits!!! We are eating a lot more vegetarian dishes as a result, they are cheap and delicious and my veggie daughter approves!

Back to the card. I stamped 3 pale pink hearts around the elephant and used Glossy Accents to glue some sequins about her. I added a pink one near her ear, but when I added more sequins later, a little white one got stuck underneath, and I think she's looking at it, wondering where it came from!

The pink paper has soft white images on it, and comes from DCWV's 'Mariposa@ pad, which I have had for several years. I used a Lawn Fawn Stitched Circles die to make an aperture (I have both the large and small circle sets, I'm not sure which set the die came from!) and backed it with acetate. The border is made with the first die I used and also the next size up.

I doubled up strips of Scotch foam tape, cut them lengthways in half, removed the backing and curved it around the aperture, leaving no gaps. Then I added more doubled tape around the edges of the back of the patterned paper. I had stamped the elephant onto my base card, all I had to do then was dust the exposed edges of the tape around the aperture with an embossing buddy, add some sequins (from Lucy's Little Things Tutu Sparkly Shaker Selection) and lay the patterned paper piece over it.

The banner is also by Lawn Fawn, and the sentiment is by Paper Smooches.

Phew, what a long post! I so enjoyed making this card, Shaker cards take a long time for me because I am rather fussy about getting everything right, but they are such fun!

Go and see my teamies' interpretations on the theme, they are such a talented bunch, you're bound to find inspiration there!

Good morning! Today our new CRAFT Challenge is our regular Christmas theme.

This cute Heart Swag Snowman is from our sponsor DRS Designs. I used up some more old Christmas paper from my stash for the background, the silver ribbon is from Hobbycraft, and the silver-embossed sentiment is from an old Clearly Besotted stamp set.

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #4

Hi, guys! It's a lovely, sunny day in S-E Herts, so of course it's time for another Challenge at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge!

I have been having a massive tidy of my craft hovel and found a lot of very old Christmas papers, so I made 3 Starburst/Sunburst cards. The link is to Youtube.

The Christmas tree is a Spellbinders die, I filled in the holes with red stickles. The sentiment is by Hero Arts.

The holly die is by Whimsy Stamps and the sentiment is from the same Hero Arts set

I layered it on gold card, and the sentiment is by Lil' Inkers.

Fun cards, and brilliant for using up snippets!

PS Here is a video on making a side starburst card, for some variety!

Have a good week!

Dream Valley #154 All About the Hair

Hi, guys, our new Challenge at Dream Valley is to have differently coloured hair on your project. Don't do what I did!!!!! I didn't read the requirements properly - what a plonker! So please imagine that the dancer on my card has purple, or blue, or orange or pink hair!

The image is an old one from the greatly-missed Saturated Canary. I used paper from a very old magazine freebie paper pad; the sentiment is from an old Clearly Besotted stamps set which sadly seems unavailable. The ribbon and gems are from stash.

Hydrangea and Butterfly.

Hi, guys! I have been on my Church's Flower-arranging Team for the past few years, guided by a wonderful lady named Shirley. She is a Jedi Master and I her humble Padawan. She has a wonderful phrase to remind us not to make the arrangement too tight: "Leave room for the butterflies!"

She is moving away this Spring to be nearer her daughters. I will miss her so much, even though I know it's the right thing to do. I wanted to make a very personal card for her, so I used a stamp set that came free (along with a stencil) with a cardmaking magazine a couple of months ago. Hydrangeas and butterflies are featured!

I coloured the images with Copics having added the butterfly above the flower. I rounded the corners and added Spun Sugar Distress Ink around the edges. The sentiment says: "If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies" which I thought was quite appropriate. I added clear Wink of Stella to the blooms, butterfly wings and caterpillar.

The background paper has a subtle white and fawn damask pattern. I used some pink Centura Pearl card to make the card base. Even my hubby likes this one!!!

My Time to Craft #343 No Designer Papers.

Good morning! I hope you're all having a good weekend!

Our new Challenge at My Time to Craft is to use No Designer Papers. I went with dry embossing and inlaid die-cutting to make my card.

The most important thing to remember about embossing your background is to die-cut first! Squished embossing is not very pretty - go on, guess how I know! Anyway, I cut the hearts using a nesting die set and some card snippets to give an ombre effect before embossing the background with a Sizzix folder. Then I used a scrap of typing paper to back the aperture and glued the hearts onto it. I added clear Wink of Stella for some shimmer.

The gold-embossed sentiment is from Super Script stamp set by Altenew.

My teamies have all been so inventive with their creations, do pop over to the blog to see what they've done!

CRAFT Challenge #410 Colour Combo

Good morning! We have a great new Challenge at CRAFT Challenge! It's a Colour Combo:

Gorgeous, or what?

I used Love to Dance by our fab sponsor All Dressed Up Stamps. I love Wendy's beautiful, charming images!

The papers were created by our Boss, Jo. I used a Spellbinders Labels 20 die to cut the mat. I also used a Spellibinders Foliage Two set for the white die-cut flourishes. The flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts and the lace is from stash.

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #3

Good afternoon! We have another challenge at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge. As always the theme is Anything Goes - as long as it's Christmas!

I have made a very simple card, using a die-cut, gold glitter paper, and an embossed sentiment.

The die is by Memory Box, and I glued some gold glitter card behind the entire top piece to give a slightly raised effect when I glued it to the base card. The gold-embossed sentiment is, I think, an old magazine freebie. I doodled a frame around the sentiment using a metallic gel pen.

Thanks for looking, do go and see my teamies' lovely festive creations and join in our Challenge!

PS Ooops! I scheduled this for 1 am instead of 1pm! Oh dear, what a plonker!!! What a good thing that I checked before bedtime!!!!!

Dream Valley Challenge #153 Our Four-legged Friends

Good morning! Welcome to the start of a new week, and a new Challenge at Dream Valley! The theme this fortnight is Our Four-legged Friends.

I used an adorable image from Di's Digi Stamps who is our lovely sponsor.

This is Squisshy Kitty - she is so cute!

I coloured her with Promarkers and added gold Stickles to the centres of the daisies. The mat is cut with a Spellbinders' Stately Circles die which unfortunately seems to be out of print. The paper is from a magazine freebie many years ago and has a linen-effect print on the background. The stickers are from Paperchase and the ribbon from stash. The sentiment is from an old banner set by Clearly Besotted.

CRAFT Challenge #409 Create your own embellishment

Hi, guys! Our new theme at Craft Challenge is Create Your Own Embellishment!

For my card i used a lovely image by Sponsor Nikki Burnette, this is Adeline

I coloured her with Promarkers, I loved colouring the folds on her outfit, and added Wink of Stella to the butterflies' wings. I used punches by Woodware, which are many years old, to make the daisies: I punched the bottom layers from gingham papers and the top layers from plain pink papers (both of which were SNIPPETS) and then layered them and added gold stickles in the centres - those were my DIY embellishmants. The leaves are punched from a snippet of turquoise card. I also added a strip of white ribbon, too.

My Time to Craft #342 Woodland Animals or Easter.

Hiya, lads and lasses! It's a glorious sunny day here in S-E Hertfordshire, Spring has well and truly sprung!

Easter is approaching fast, but of course not everyone celebrates it, so at My Time to Craft we have two themes to choose from: Woodland Animals or Easter.

I made an Easter card, using die-cuts.

The Tattered Lace Small Cross Die was cut from white card and glued directly onto some gorgeous textured paper by First Edition. It's from a pad called 'Spring Drop' which is sadly out of print. The oval was glued directly onto white card cut with a Spellbinders' Elegant Ovals That is raised on foam pads. I did the same with the next layer, too.

Finally I added 5 tiny green gems and rounded the top corner.  I really need to get out my dies more often!

Go and see my teamies' gorgeous creations and join in the fun!

The gold mat is made with a Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Rectangles die and the background paper is from an old pad by Papermania. The stars are from Paperchase and the ribbon is from stash. There's a lot of Spectrum Noir sparkle on the fur trim of Santa's gorgeous coat!

Dream Valley #152 Fantasy

I'm so sorry this is a day late!

Our new Challenge at Dream Valley is Fantasy. Our sponsor is Beccy's Place and I used this fabulous Dragon Design done by Beccy's daughter when she was 12! I think you'll agree that it's amazing!

I've been re-playing a videogame that includes Leviathan, a water-dragon, and although it looks more snaky than this one, I thought I'd use blues and make a 'watery' background.

I used Ranger alcohol inks on photo paper, since I can't find my glossy cardstock - it worked ok, but the paper soaked up quite a lot of the ink and dried very quickly, so I don't recommend photo paper at all! The frame round the dragon is a Die-namics Stitched Oval Scalloped Frame Die cut from pearlised card. The pearls are made with a blue and a green pearl pen. The birthday sentiment is from Sentiment Sampler by Paper Smooches and has been gold-embossed. I added Clear Wink of Stella to Leviathan's wings.

Have a fantastic week, and thanks for looking!

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #1

Good morning! There's Exciting News this morning - a brand new Challenge blog!

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge is a fortnightly Tuesday Challenge, whose theme is Christmas and always Anything Goes! I'm on the Design Team!!

For my first card I have used an old Whiff of Joy rubber stamp, Willow with Candle. It's by the talented Elisabeth Bell: many of her images are now available as digis from Elisabeth Bell, but unfortunately not this one. Please read the terms and conditions very carefully.

Here is my card:

I layered some old Christmas paper on gold and green card, and cut the Spellbinders die from the same gold card. The poinsettia is an old Marianne die, I embossed it and rubbed some Nuvo Embellishing Mouse over the raised veins. The holly leaves are also an old Marianne die, cut from a scrap of pearlised green card. The gold-embossed sentiment is by Altenew. I added gold-coloured gems from my stash.

This year I am determined not to spend the week before Christmas madly making cards!!!

Go and see the inspiration my teamies have left on the blog, and join in! It's never too soon to start making Christmas cards!

My Time to Craft DT Challenge #340 Travel

Evening, all! I hope you are all having a good weekend. The evenings are getting noticeably longer now, and Spring is on its way! Though on sunny days the sun shining through the windows shows me that they really need a good clean!

Are you planning your holibobs yet? Because our new Challenge at My Time to Craft! is Travel. So that means boats, aeroplanes, cars, motorbikes - you get the idea.

I have this very, very old wood-mounted stamp, I've had it for years. It's not the easiest to stamp, being big and also full of tiny details. I tried embossing in white and painting a wash of watercolour over it, and it just did not work. Then I tried Versafine Onyx Black, which is so good for fine detail, but it was too stark. Sepia Versafine was just dull. Finally I went for Mama Elephant's Stargazer pigment ink. Success! It was annoying that my previous ideas didn't work, but all that practice in stamping meant the final image came out really well!!!

I added a touch of Spectrum Noir clear sparkle pen on the yacht and the shell. The arrow die-cut was made with a MFT Die-namics die from the Blueprints 13 set and the sentiment is from Bon Voyage by Lawn Fawn. The mat was cut with a Mama Elephant die sadly there's no name on the packet) and I tied twine from stash around it.

Have a look at my teamies' inventive variations on the theme, and be inspired to join in!

CRAFT Challenge #404 Mother's Day/Female

Mothering Sunday will be here soon, and my heart goes out to all of those whose mothers are no longer with us. Seeing all the cards in shop windows can be very painful. So I'm glad to say that our next Challenge at CRAFT Challenge is Mother's Day OR Female. I went with a generic card for a lady.

The cute image is Watering Can Flowers and is a digi from Pickled Potpourri. I coloured and fussy-cut the flowers and added Wink of Stella on the petals and gold stickles in the centres, then fussy-cut the image. I used a circle die to cut out the watering can image and added the flowers on top using foam pads. The mat is cut with another spellbinders die from a snippet of purple card.

The papers are from the Indie Chic series by Basic Grey, this is 'Saffron' and it seems to be out of print. I have so many older paper pads! The ribbon and the crystal dragonflies are from Hobbycraft, and the gold-embossed sentiment is from a stamp set by Penny Black called Gratitude

Our sponsor this week is the lovely Pickled Potpourri Designs

Dream Valley DT Challenge #150 Metal

Hello, my dearios! Happy Monday!

Our new challenge at Dream Valley is to use Metal on your creation. By the way, make sure you hop over to the Challenge blog, we have a new and very pretty background!

Our sponsor for this challenge is Star Stampz - do go and have a look at the adorable digi images there!

I used My Sweet Rose on my card, she is so cute!

The papers are from the Saffron paper pad by Basic Grey, which seems to be out of print. That's one of the disadvantages of using up old papers, often they are no longer available. The flowers are various paper flowers from my stash, and they all have gold-coloured brads as centre-pieces.

In the top right corner is a filigree metal embellishment that came from Whiff of Joy. The ribbon is from Hobbycraft and the rose on the knot is by Webster's Pages, it was a magazine freebie a long time ago. The ivy leaves are also from stash and very old! The doily behind the image is cut with a die by Apple Blossom dies from Craft Stash

My teamies have made some gorgeous creations, do go over to the blog to be inspired!

I am scheduling this post, because tomorrow I have a hospital appointment to prepare for an operation on Wednesday, when the tube which lies above my right boob, and which was used to feed in the chemo drugs last year, will be removed. HOORAY!!!!!

I hope I've got the scheduling right lol!

My Time to Craft DT Challenge #339 Anything but a card.

Good morning! Happy Saturday, I hope you're having a great weekend!

Our new Challenge at My Time to Craft! and the theme is Anything but a Card! You can create anything at all, in any medium, EXCEPT a card!

I have some lovely small candles by Yankee Candles, which smell delicious! I also have the Spellbinders' Bracket edge square box which fits the candles exactly!

The die is JUST small enough to go through a Cuttlebug, though I used my Grand Calibur. After cutting, you emboss to add the fold lines and simply glue the tabs together. There's a separate die for the base and the lid. It looks as though it's discontinued, so be quick if you want to get your mitts on one!

I used paper from American Craft' 'Yes Please!' 12 x 12 pad which is double-sided. Sadly, those papers are now unavailable. The cardstock is nice and firm, but not too stiff to crease.

I used another Spellbinders die, from an old motifs set, to make a little doily to go on the lids, and added flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts and bows made from ribbon from my stash.

I was inspired by this video by the inspiring Christina Griffiths.

Go and see my teamies' imaginative creations, they will inspire you to join in!

A New Challenge Blog! And a DT call!

My lovely pal Marlene (The Boss at Dream Valley) is starting a new Christmas blog called The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge. What a great name!

There is a DT call, here are the details:

As a DT member at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge your commitment would be to make a project every other week - though you can join in every week if you would like to. We take holiday breaks in the busy summer and Christmas periods so you don't need to worry about meeting tight deadlines at these times.
I would like to have crafters of all styles and abilities on our team - so you do not need to be an experienced crafter or DT member as there is always someone around to help out on our DT blog on blogger where we can chat and keep up to date with our challenges, the most important thing is that you are reliable and join in with our team - so a blogger account is required

The other requirement is that you comment every week on your allocated numbers - and it's always nice to visit your fellow teamies!

If you are interested, hop over to the Dream Valley blog and add your name to Mr Linky.

Good luck!

CRAFT Challenge DT #402 Recycling

Good morning! Thursday means a new CRAFT Challenge and this week our theme is Recycling

I have done quite a lot of recycling on my card!

The fun image is Roosting Chicken by QKR Stampede. Poor love, she looks rather miserable! I admit, I tried to colour her TWICE in 'realistic' colours - browns and creams - but it didn't work. Then I suddenly realised that she was feeling 'blue' and the new colouring worked a treat! Of course this had to be a 'get well' card, and I hope it will cheer up the lady I will send it to!

The abstract background is RECYCLED from the box that enclosed a very nice Rioja wine that we had for my hubby's birthday last Friday. It went very well with steak and mushrooms! The red ribbon is RECYCLED from a box of chox that we were given for Christmas, and the holographic blue hearts were die-cut from card RECYCLED from a gift bag.

I hope that's enough recycling for the Challenge lol!

Our lovely sponsors:

Di's Digi Stamps - Diane's images are gorgeous, do have a look!
