CRAFT Challenge #438 Christmas.

Morning, all! I hope your week is going well and that you're looking forward to a good weekend!

Maybe you're planning on making Christmas cards? If so, you're in luck, as Christmas is our new theme at CRAFT Challenge!

The sweet image is Christmas Bella from Paper Nest Dolls. The crown of candles is worn by Santa Lucia, whose feast day is now 13th December - but before the calendar changed in 1752 it was on the shortest day, hence the candles to signify light. A friend of my daughter's is called Lucy and she's a big fan of Santa Lucia, so this is for her!

The papers are from an old pad by Papermania, there is gold foiling and glitter on some of the papers. The sentiment is from the Paper Smooches Christmas Sammpler.

Our sponsors this week are:

All Dressed Up Stamps

and also Paper Nest Dolls

Go and see the gorgeous creations made by my teamies using digis generously given to us by our sponsors!

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #17

Morning, all! I hope everyone is ok this morning, especially those in the British Isles hit by Storm Ophelia yesterday. It was a bit blowy in S-E Herts, and the sky turned a strange reddish-sepia: I remember 'red dust' from a couple of times in the 60s and 70s when I was at school, but never anything like that! Fortunately the sky is clear and the sun is shining today.

How are you doing with your Christmas cards? The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge is here to encourage you! As usual, our theme is Anything Christmas Goes!

In my never-ending quest to use up my patterned papers I investigated Youtube and found a tutorial on making a pleated card here by a talented lady called Crazy Paper Chick.

The paper isn't actually Christmas, but I love the pattern! I scored a piece of 10" x 5" paper at 1" and half an inch alternately, trimmed out a truncated diamond, and folded.

Then I re-folded because I had the wrong side of the paper facing up!!!

The card is for someone who isn't religious, so I added a 'holiday cheer' sentiment from Paper Smooches' Christmas Sampler set. The banner is from Streamers by Paper Smooches. The birds are by Lawn Fawn.

I added a dot of Platinum Stickles to the centres of the crosses on the paper, and went round the edge with a white gel pen.

It's not the usual type of Christmas card, but I enjoyed making it!

Thanks for looking and have a great week!

CRAFT Challenge #437 Shaped Card (Not a Square or Rectangle.)

Hi, guys! We have a new challenge at CRAFT Challenge and it's a good one: Shaped Card - but NOT Square or Rectangular!

I have an old octagonal die by Spellbinders which is about 10 cm wide, and I thought it would be ideal for a small card. I drew areound the outside onto a piece of folded cardstock, then die-cut the mat and finally drew around the inside of the die and cut out the patterned paper.

The adorable image is Little Boy Blue from Melonheadz Doodles. I added Glossy Accents to the horn.

It was lovely to work on such a small scale, the trick is to find papers whose patterns aren't too big.

Our sponsor this week is Melonheadz Doodles

Love From Lizi September Card Kit - Three Cards

I recently subscribed to the card kits by Love From Lizi which is a uk-based online shop. She has a Youtube Channel too, which is where I first came across her. Wow! is all I can say!

I found it very hard to cut into the gorgeous speciality papers and use the fab sequins, lace and ribbon, but I bit the bullet and here are 3 cards.

This is made with beautiful, glossy patterned card and an old Die'sire die which I cut and then embossed.

For this Shaker card I used a scrap of the left-over speciality card and the peacock die which came in the kit. I stamped and embossed the pretty curly flower onto mint cardstock : stamp, card and embossing powder, and the sequins, are from the kit, as is the sentiment and the silver twine. The zig-zag border is made with a MFT zig-zag circle die and a Spellbinders die to cut the centre.

On this card - you guessed it! everything came from the kit, except I used a die to cut a rectangle into kraft cardstock, then covered the inside piece with lace, and glued it flat. The frame is on foam tape. I went over the stitching lines with a white gel pen and added the velvet ribbon and buckle, and the butterfly, which has pearlescent Nuvo Drops along the bodyline.

The last one is my favourite, I love all the texture!

I am trying to be brave and use items from kits, but it's a bit daunting because I'm ridiculously nervous about spoiling things! Silly, eh? It's only paper!!!!!

Dream Valley #165 One for the Boys

Hi, guys! I hope all is well with you. We have a new Challenge at Dream Valley for you: last time it was One for the Girls and this time it's One For The Boys.

I have made a birthday card for a little boy, using Babay Boy and Monkey from our sponsor Sasayaki Glitter.

Isn't he fun?

The paper is by Crate Paper from their 6x6 Toy Box collection - sadly now out of print. The sentiment is from Paper Smooches' Sentiment Sampler stamp set, I stamped in black Versafine and clear-embossed it.

Now it's your turn! Have a look at the gorgeous inspiration my teamies have left on the blog and make something for one of the blokes in your life!

Thanks for looking, and have a good week!

My Time to Craft #356 Sympathy

Morning, all! It's a grey and overcast day here in S-E Hertfordshire - I hope you guys are seeing some sunshine this weekend!

We have a new challenge at My Time to Craft and it's quite a difficult one: Sympathy.

I am a big fan of Jennifer McGuire and took inspiration from this video entitled 4-for-1 masked cards. It's a clever technique, because you get two cards from just one stamping session.

I cut a circle in a piece of card the same size as a card front and stamped various flower and leaf imges in dye inks over both pieces, added a stamped sentiment, and mounted them on 2 card bases with foam tape. I cut one of the cards down because the circle looked a bit remote on a full-sized card.

Some close-ups:

My teamies have made some beautiful and elegant sympathy cards - do go and see them!

Thanks for looking and have a good weekend!

CRAFT Challenge #436 Inspiration Picture!

Good morning! We have an Inspiration Challenge at CRAFT Challenge this week.

We also have our DT CALL so make sure to check it out!

Here is the lovely Inspiration Picture, it's a lovely, tranquil scene:

I took the colours of the sky, the sunset and the fence as my inspiration:

I ink-blended the sky and added dots of a glitter gel pen tor stars. The 'clouds' are made by drops of water, which bleached the ink. The fence is made with a die from Whiff of Joy and the grass with a die from Lawn Fawn.

The image is from clip art by our sponsor Digital Paper Craft.

Have a look at my teamies' creations to see how they were inspired by the picture, they will give you some great ideas!

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #16 Anything Goes

Good morning! It's time for another Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge and as ever it's Anything Goes.

I have been inspired by the videos of Kristie Marcotte. She takes a pad of 6x6 papers and challenges herself to use the whole lot! This card is not a copy, I hasten to add!! I just wanted to make a card with a simple layout that highlights the patterned paper!

The papers came free with a magazine. The sentiment is from All the Christmas You'll Ever Need by Lil' Inkers, and is gold-embossed. The die-cut mat is from Spellbinders Stately Circles. The ribbon and gems are from stash.

I made 2 other cards with the same papers:

I hope you'll go across to the blog and have a look at my teamies' gorgeous creations and be inspired to make a Christmas card or two!!

CRAFT Challenge #435 Out of this world!

Hi, guys! We have a cosmically good Challenge at CRAFT Challenge this week: Out of This World!

Think stars, moons, planets, spaceships, aliens.....

I have made a galaxy background. I stamped and gold-embossed some star constellations from Simon Says Stamp Seeing Stars stamp set then blended on colour with Distress Inks, and splattered watered-down Nuvo Mousse over it to create the stars. The gold-embossed sentiment is from a very old stamp set which has no name, so I don't know where it came from. The cute image is Magical Unicorn by Scrap'N'Dipity.

I admit, this unicorn is stretching the theme a bit, but I'm reluctant to use Astrology signs, but the cosmic background is definitely 'Out of This World!'

Our sponsor is Scrap'N'Dipity.

Dream Valley Challenges #164 One for the Girls

Good morning! To cheer up your Monday we have a new Challenge at Dream Valley with a lovely theme: One for the Girls. An excuse to dig out all your prettiest papers and embellishments for the ladies in your life!

I apologise for the rather odd photo, the Glossy Accents was still wet, so I took the picture with the card lying flat instead of upright!

The delicious papers are from a very old pad by MME called 'Quite Contrary.' The sentiment is from the same pad, I fussy cut it and added it to some white card and covered it all with Glossy Accents. The sweet image is Jerry from our sponsor Ppinky Dolls.

The ribbon and gems are from stash.

My Time to Craft Challenge #355 Die Cuts Only

Hi, guys! Apologies for the delay in posting, I've had a gippy tummy today and spent most of it asleep!

It's a nice and easy Challenge at My Time to Craft! this fortnight: Die Cuts Only.

I used a set of nesting dies by Tonic and layered them with plain die-cut circles. The flowers are stamped and die-cut with an old set from Clearly Besotted, and the sentiment is from the same set.

Have a look at my teamies' creations, they are so creative, they will inspire you!

Remember, it's Die-cuts ONLY - a die-cut image doesn't count! (In fact, my stamped and cut flowers and my stamped sentiment may be stretching the Challenge a bit too far, come to think of it.)

Thanks for looking, and have a good weekend!

Hi, guys! We have a new Challenge at CRAFT Challenge which is Autumn/Halloween/Thanksgiving .

We also have a DT CALL so do go over to the blog and check it out!

I don't normally 'do' Halloween, but my daughter's partner's family does, so I made a Halloween card.

The image is Coraline by Nikki Burnette. I coloured her with Promarkers and added Spectrum Noir Sparkle to the moon. The black lace background paper is from stash. The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn's Celebrations Scripty Sayings stamp set. I also added some orange twine.

Our sponsor is Nikki Burnette.

I hope you're all looking forward to a good weekend!

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #15 Anything Goes

Hi, guys! I hope your week is going well! Did you know it's now less than 100 days until Christmas? Scary!

Now's your chance to get ahead and join in at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge where it's always 'Anything Goes.'

A few weeks ago I posted a card here using a die from a magazine which I inlaid with different coloured card. I've used the same die and also the matching embossing folder for today's card:

This time I didn't do any inlay. I went over the border stars with a white gel pen. I love blue and white for Christmas/Winter cards, I think it looks so crisp and fresh!

Do go and see what my teamies have made to inspire you!

CRAFT Challenge #433 Christmas

Don't forget we have a DT Call on until the end of the month!

Good morning, all! Brrr, it's a chilly, grey day in S-E Herts:a good day to join in at the new CRAFT Challenge and make something for Christmas.

(As long as the weather is fine in Birmingham, where Essex Cricket Club are on the verge of winning the Division One Championship title, I don't mind what it does here. Exciting times!)

Right, our theme is Christmas, and I made a card:

This cute image is Snowy, Slippy and Flurry from Digital Delights by Louby Loo. I added a lot of stickles!

I used paper from an old Papermania pad that has bands of pattern, but it was rather too busy, so I added a green dotted paper fromthe same pad. I added some glittery bakers' twine and the sentiment is from Lawn Fawn's Winter Scripty Sayings stamp set, embossed in white.

We have two fab sponsors this week:

Digital Delights by Louby Loo

and Oddball Art.

Go and see my teamies' gorgeous work!

And don't forget the DT Call!

Dream Valley Challenge #163 Autumn Colours

Hi, guys! We have a new Challenge at Dream Valley and it's very topical: Autumn Colours. So that's red, orange, brown, a little green, perhaps. Mind today has been cold and rainy so the autumn colours in S-E Herts are basically grey and more grey!!!

I made my card before the last very busy fortnight (Children's Holiday Club at Church followed by a week away near Bath) and used an image from our sponsor, the fabulous All Dressed Up which I already had. Sadly, she is no longer available on the website, but there are plenty more of Wendy's delightful digis to admire!

I used some old papers by Kaisercraft from the Peachy Keen Collection and added some lace from stash.  The sentiment is by Lili of the Valley.  I used a Fiskars Threading water punch on the horizontal yellow strip, and the corners are from an ancient Spellbinders die set.

The papers have a lovely gloss over the red leaves, and I added Glossy Accents to the balloon - which looks blue in the photo when it should be blue-green!

Go and see my teamies' gorgeous work, then brighten up your day making something in fab Autumn colours!!!

Thanks for looking, and have a good week!

My Time to Craft Challenge #354 Under the Sea.

'Darling, it's better Down where it's wetter, Take it from me!' Yes, you'll be humming the song all weekend now!

Yes, our theme for this fortnight's My Time to Craft! Challenge is Under The Sea.

This gorgeous mermaid is Siren of Pearls from Make It Crafty.  I used an old Magnolia die for the white card 'lace' and the papers came from stash.  The star stickers are from Paperchase.  I fussy cut the mermaid and added her to the shell image, also from Make It Crafty, on foam pads.

As a last hurrah at the end of summer, have a go at a sea-themed creation! There's loads of inspiration on the My Time to Craft blog!

CRAFT Challenge #432 Technique Challenge: Embossing

Good morning! We have a technique Challenge at CRAFT Challenge this week: Embossing. This can either be heat embossing or dry embossing with a folder - or both!

I used an embossing folder on some ivory Centura Pearl cardstock for my background.  The image mat is cut with a Spellbinders die. The gold-embossed sentiment is from a very old Woodware stamp set.

The kawaii image (that's 'cute' in Japanese!) is Kimono Portrait by Star Stampz. The ribbon and gems are from stash.

Apologies for the lack of detail, I'm on holiday and left the details at home!!

Our Sponsor is the adorable Star Stampz.

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #14

Hi, guys! I'm posting this from a little stone cottage just north of Bath, in the UK, where Ye Olde Manne and I are having a week's holiday. My sister lives in Bath, and my oldest friend and her parents live in nearby villages, so we have been visiting them. Next year I will have known my friend and her parents for 60 years! I can't quite believe it!!!

Anyway, on to the Challenge at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge and of course the theme is Anything Goes.

I used an old Whimsy Stamp, designed by Melissa Jenkins, of a cute fairy using a holly leaf as a sail to blow her along!

Unfortunately I left my list of items I used at home!

Have a look at my teamies' creations, they will inspire you to get on with your Christmas cards!!

CRAFT Challenge #431 Waterfall Card.

Hi, guys! I hope your week is going well! Our new Challenge at CRAFT Challenge is to make a Waterfall card. I had never made one before, so this was a definite Challenge!

First, here are the images that I used. The holly die-cut is from an old Whimsy Stamps die and is covered with Spectrum Noir shimmer. The others are: Merry Christmas, Christmas Snowman, and Angel Wishes digis from QKR Stampede.

I added a stamped border to the sentiment image. The completed card is like this:

Next time I make one I'll use thinner card for the mechanism, as it's very stiff!

Our sponsors this week:

Di's Digistamps

and:

QKR Stampede.

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #13

D'OH. And DOUBLE D'OH! I didn't post my card last week for The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge. Sheer forgetfulness, I'm afraid, during the summer holidays I can never remember what day it is! I write lists to myself and then lose them. Wot a plonker, eh?

Well, better late than never! The theme, as always, is Anything Christmas Goes.

Now, this is RIGHT out of my comfort zone! I had a weird dream about a huge Christmas card that was slathered with lace and muslin and lots of gold trim, and when I woke up I thought, dammit, I'll give it a go!

Let me tell you, this card took me all afternoon to make. I tried out different inks and stamps, and finally plumped for Vintage Photo Distress ink and a very old Santa image from Bo Bunny. The torn background paper is stamped with a wood plank effect stamp from Altenew. I added a Spellbinders holly motifs die-cut behind the Santa. The flowers and roses lace and the pearl strip are from Wild Orchid Crafts. The sentiment was a magazine freebie.

I added a lot of gold glamour dust to give some sparkle!

So that is the rather odd story of this card. I must say, I enjoyed putting it all together once I'd gathered all the necessary bits!!

Apologies once again for the delayed post!

I hope you're all having a good week.

Thanks for looking!

Dream Valley #162 Use a stamp or digi image.

Good morning! Happy Bank Holiday Monday for those enjoying the break!

Our new Challenge at Dream Valley which is to Use a stamped or digi image. Nice and easy - but it must be an image!

I have used one of the fabulous images from Wendy Burns at All Dressed Up Stamps. In fact, this beauty is a rubber stamp from Little Darlings Rubber Stamps, this is Looking Gorgeous.

She is so glamorous that I pulled out the flowers and lace! Both are from Wild Orchid Crafts. I built a flower arch for the ballerina to dance under, and added little leaves from a Spellbinders' Foliage die. I also used a Spellbinders Labels 22 die to cut out the image.

The paper is from an old paper pad by Tilda called 'Summer Blues.' The ribbon is from stash.

Our sponsor is All Dressed Up. Do go and have a look at Wendy's lovely images!

The DT has used some of Wendy's images to inspire you, go and see!

My Time to Craft #353 Krafty

Hi, guys! Our new challenge at My Time to Craft is Krafty - use kreft on your creation.

I love the look of white embossing on kraft, though alcohol markers don't mix well at all with embossed lines, so I dug out my Prismacolor pencils.

This is Hero Art's Tall Flowers stamp, sadly unavailable. The die-cut banner and stamp are Streamers by Paper Smooches. I rounded the corners with a corner chomper.

Have a look at the inspiration from my teamies, they are gorgeous!

CRAFT Challenge #429 Christmas

Hi, guys! We have our regular Christmas theme at CRAFT Challenge!

This cute Santa is from the Christmas Junk Drawer set by Melonheadz Clip Art.

The papers are from an old Papermania pad. I used a Memory Box Frosty Border die for the snowflakes and covered them in Glamour Dust. Santa's fur trim has been stickled.

I hope all is well with you! This weekend we are visiting beautiful Shropshire for a family reunion, and the Irish contingent are flying in tonight, so I've been madly cleaning and tidying! We have a travel cot which is such a pain to fold up that we tend to leave it in the bedroom, where it gets filled with blankets, pillows etc. So now I have to put them all away in the right cupboards!! Serves me right for being lazy!!!

Anyway, I hope you all have a great weekend, too! Thanks for looking!

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #12

Hiya! The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge no 12 is here! As usual the theme is Anything Goes for Christmas.

I used a die that came with a magazine to do some card inlaying:

I backed the image with silver mirri card, which shows through the star and the windows, and added dots of a white gel pen to make more stars in the sky.

Inlay die-cutting is a bit fiddly, and you have to be careful not to lose any of the smaller pieces, but I really like it!

Dream Valley Challenge #161 Christmas Animals.

Good morning! To cheer up your week we have a great new Challenge at Dream Vlley which is Christmas Animals.

I used a small Hero Arts cling stamp called Small Fancy Reindeer - I love his curly antlers!

I used a gorgeous die from Joy!crafts which sadly is no longer available, to echo the curly antlers. The starry ribbon-threader is a very old Marianne die, and I used silver ribbon from Hobbycraft to thread through the holes. I added some of the left-over stars as embellishments. The paper is from stash.

My Time to Craft #352 Hats &/or Bags

It's Saturday! And it's not raining (yet!) Yippee!!!

I had my 3-monthly check up post-chemo yesterday, and all seems well, thank goodness! :)

Now on to our new Challenge at My Time to Craft is Hats and Bags. You can use either or both on your creation.

I can't find a link to the gorgeous Sarah Kay image, sadly, though if you Google you'll find some places that still sell her stamps. NOT, of course, digi copies of her images on Pinterest or elsewhere, those have been stolen and are why she has stopped doing stamps, I'm told.

Anyway, I coloured her in Copics and added Glamour Dust to her ribbons. I used a Joy!Crafts Heart die 6002/0381 for the doily and their Leaf die 6002/0493 for the leaves. The cheesecloth is from stash, as are the flowers and the ribbon. The lace is from The Ribbon Girl. The papers are All About Me by Prima.

CRAFT Challenge #428 Anything Goes!

Hiya! We have a fab theme at CRAFT Challenge this week - Anything Goes!

I have made a birthday card for a friend who supports Arsenal Football Club, whose colours are red and white.

The fun image is Dunderton Academicals. I coloured him with Copics and added Glossy Accents to his glasses, and went around the edges with Pumice Stone Distress Ink. I added a frame made with an old MFT Die-namics die, which I distressed with Vintage Photo, then added some streaks of Delicata Gold ink to give the impression of an old picture frame with worn gilding. It shows better irl.

The background paper is from an old pad by (I think) Cosmo Cricket - the label has come off! The sentiment is by Clearly Besotted. The little banner stamp is from my first kit from Love From Lizi - all my other banner stamps were too big, but this one was perfect!

I had a lot of fun making this - even though my team is Arsenal's North London rival, Tottenham Hotspur - and I wonder what he'd look like done in sepia, like a very old photo!

Our sponsor this week is Doctor Digi's House of Stamps.

Have a go at our Challenge, there's lots of inspiration from my gorgeous teamies on the blog!
